Chapter 89 - The Paper Kingdom

The heavy mahogany doors of our Chicago home were sealed shut under court order. Outside, rain fell in relentless gray sheets over Lake Michigan, while inside our private security war room in downtown Chicago, the digital monitors hummed with cold electricity.

I stood before a massive glass whiteboard, my eyes scanning the complex web of financial trusts, offshore accounts, and court filings. Beside me, Ethan was leaning over a terminal, his jaw tight, his broad shoulders rigid with tension.

"Charlotte didn't act alone," Marcus said, stepping into the room and slapping a thick leather folder onto the table. "I traced the filing fees for the London High Court. The funds were wired through a dummy corporation in the Cayman Islands registered to Julian Sterling."

Ethan looked up, his deep blue eyes burning with quiet fury. "Julian was always the real snake in the Sterling family. He let Genevieve take the fall last year while he stayed in the shadows, waiting for the exact moment to strike."

"What about the 2014 trust ledger?" I asked, turning to Ethan, my voice calm but sharp as steel. "The text message said you knew Charlotte was alive when you married me."

Ethan walked over to me, taking my hands in his. His grip was warm, solid, and filled with unquestionable sincerity. "Victoria, when I walked onto your doorstep ten years ago with thirty dollars in my pocket, Charlotte was dead to me. Julian had faked her death to keep her locked in a private psychiatric facility in Scotland, using her as leverage to control the Sterling trust. I was told she died in that explosion. I never knew she survived—until yesterday."

"Then we go to London," I said, my gaze locking onto his with absolute conviction. "They think a piece of paper from ten years ago can destroy our family. We're going to show them that our empire wasn't built on paper—it was built on blood, sweat, and truth."
