Chapter 136 - The New Dynasty Under the Sun

One year later, the warm summer breeze swept across the rolling green meadows of our family estate outside Annecy, France.

The turquoise waters of Lake Annecy sparkled like a field of fallen sapphires beneath a cloudless, brilliant azure sky. The towering peaks of the French Alps rose in majestic silence in the distance, no longer a place of hiding or cold ambushes, but an eternal sanctuary of peace and freedom.

Under the spreading branches of an ancient cedar tree on the lawn stood a long wooden dining table draped in crisp white linen, laden with platters of fresh summer berries, warm artisanal baguettes, roasted chicken with rosemary, and pitchers of sweet lavender lemonade.

Around the table sat the people who truly mattered: Marcus Vance, laughing openly as he poured wine for Dr. Moreau; Captain Dupont, dressed in civilian clothes, sharing stories with Sister Beatrice, who was visiting from Normandy wearing a clean, pressed habit and eating a slice of peach tart with joyful relish.

Down on the soft green grass near the water’s edge, Noah and Sophie were laughing with unbridled, miraculous joy.

Noah was flying a remote-controlled scale model of an emergency rescue seaplane he had built himself, his fingers maneuvering the flight sticks with effortless, brilliant precision. Sophie was running through the clover beside him, her hair catching the golden sunlight, her laughter ringing out across the water like sweet silver bells.

Ethan and I stood on the wide stone terrace of the manor, our glasses of sparkling cider resting on the balustrade.

He wore an open-collared linen shirt and dark slacks, his face tanned by the alpine sun, the hard, exhausted lines around his eyes completely smoothed away by twelve months of laughter, safety, and honest love.

He wrapped his strong, scarred arm around my waist, pulling me gently against his side.

I rested my head against his shoulder, inhaling the clean, familiar scent of cedar, sun, and home.

"They're whole, Victoria," Ethan whispered, his voice rich with deep, eternal peace as he watched the twins laugh by the lake. "They're completely whole."

"Because you stood between them and the dark, Ethan," I murmured, turning to look up into his rugged, handsome face.

"No," Ethan smiled, his gray eyes shining with boundless, reverent adoration as he touched his forehead to mine. "Because their mother taught them that truth is an empire that can never be conquered."

"Mom! Dad! Look!"

Noah’s bright, triumphant voice called out from the shore.

The miniature seaplane broke into the clear alpine sky, banking gracefully over the sparkling water before climbing toward the sun like a silver arrow.

Sophie took her brother’s hand, waving toward the terrace, her smile radiant and fearless beneath the wide French heavens.

Ethan and I stepped off the stone terrace, our fingers laced tightly together, walking down the grassy slope toward our children.

The cold ballrooms of Geneva were an old memory. The forged contracts were turned to ash. The wolves had been driven from the gate.

And our family was finally, beautifully, free forever under the wide, magnificent sky.
