Chapter 59 - The Shadow Council

The silence in the master suite after the kids went to sleep was suffocating. Ethan stood by the window, staring out at the dark expanse of Lake Michigan. His shadow stretched long across the room, looking like a ghost from a past he had tried so hard to bury.
"They won't stop with Noah," Ethan said, his voice barely a rasp. "The Vanguard operates on blood purity. To them, Noah isn't just my son—he is the legitimized heir to an international banking shadow throne."
I sat at the polished desk, my fingers flying across the keys of an encrypted laptop. "We spent ten years building Sterling-Vance, Ethan. We crushed Genevieve. We brought down Archibald. I am not letting an ancient council of aristocratic ghosts dictate the fate of my child."
"Victoria, you don't understand who Alistair Vance was," Ethan turned, his eyes burning with raw agony. "My father was a monster. He built the foundation of The Vanguard using black-market weapons, human trafficking, and sovereign debt coercion. When I ran away ten years ago with thirty dollars, I thought I had severed the cord. But the black box proves his inner circle—The Shadow Council—is still alive and operational."
A quiet knock sounded at the door. Marcus walked in, his expression solemn, carrying a secure tablet.
"I ran the digital signature from the black box," Marcus reported, leaning against the doorframe. "The audio recording of Ethan’s assignment from 2016 isn't a copy. It's stored on a primary vault server in London. If they leak it to the Department of Justice, Ethan faces immediate federal arrest for international conspiracy to commit murder. The stock will plummet, and the board will be legally forced to remove both of you."
"Then we don't let them leak it," I said, my voice dropping an octave, cold and resolute. "Marcus, prepare the private jet. We fly to London tonight."

"Victoria, no," Ethan stepped forward, taking my hands in his. "London is their home turf. Walking into Vanguard territory is suicide."
"No, Ethan," I looked into his eyes, my grip tightening around his fingers. "Ten years ago, you chose me over your father's blood money. Now, it's my turn to fight for you. We go to London, we destroy that server, and we take back our family's freedom."
