Chapter 108 - Fugitive Chairwoman

While Ethan fought his way out of Connecticut, the battle in Chicago turned dirty.

At 10:00 AM, Alexander Blackwood walked into the 42nd-floor command center accompanied by six corrupt federal marshals holding a newly issued warrant for my immediate arrest.

"Victoria Vance," Alexander smiled, his razor-sharp jawline tight with arrogance. "You are under arrest for conspiracy and international corporate espionage."

I stood up from my desk, wearing my obsidian suit, looking him dead in the eye. "You bought a judge, Alexander. But you can't buy the truth."

"I don't need to buy the truth," Alexander whispered, leaning over the desk so only I could hear. "I just need to keep you in a federal cell for forty-eight hours while I liquidate Sterling-Vance into my offshore Cayman accounts."

"Hands behind your back, Chairwoman," the lead marshal ordered, reaching for his cuffs.

Suddenly, the fire alarm system throughout the eighty-story skyscraper blared to life! WOO-WOO-WOO!

Dense white fog smoke filled the corridor as the automated sprinkler systems activated, creating instant mass panic among the staff and news crews in the building.

In the confusion, a hand grabbed my wrist. It was my chief security officer, Vance.

"This way, Chairwoman!" Vance urgency whispered, pulling me through a hidden service elevator behind the executive archive room.

Within three minutes, I was guided down into the subterranean parking garage, slipping into a bulletproof black SUV that tore out of the building just as federal transport vans pulled up to the main entrance.

I was no longer just the Chairwoman. I was a fugitive fighting for my family's life.
