Chapter 143 - The Normandy Connection

While Ethan held the dragon by its throat in Zurich, our snowmobiles reached the abandoned NATO bunker carved into the limestone cliffs of the Swiss border.

The heavy steel blast door groaned as Captain Dupont keyed in the sixty-year-old mechanical override code.

Inside, the bunker was dry, cold, and smelled of stale grease and concrete, but the emergency electrical generators kicked on with a low, reassuring hum, illuminating rows of vintage communication consoles.

Dr. Moreau and Sister Beatrice were already waiting inside the central command vault, having been escorted through the subterranean railway tunnel by two French military intelligence officers.

"Victoria!" Sister Beatrice cried out, dropping her rosary beads, rushing forward to gather Noah and Sophie into the deep, warm folds of her black habit. "Thank the Blessed Mother... you made it through the pass."

"Sister," I gasped, peeling off my frost-covered gloves, my knees shaking with exhaustion. "The Red Cross deposit box. Did your people retrieve it?"

Dr. Moreau stepped forward to the center map table, setting down a heavy, stainless-steel cylinder stamped with the emblem of the International Red Cross from 1968.

"The capsule cleared the pneumatic tube system without interception, Victoria," Dr. Moreau said, his hands steady as he entered a ten-digit biometric sequence into the cylinder's digital lock.

HISS.

The pressurized seal broke, releasing a faint cloud of cold nitrogen vapor.

Inside the cylinder sat three items:

First was a pristine, uncorrupted micro-SD card sealed in an anti-static pouch, containing Hélène de Saint-Germain’s complete intelligence files documenting thirty years of money laundering, weapons trafficking, and bribery executed by the Council of Nine.

Second was a glass vial containing the frozen genetic markers linking Noah and Sophie directly to the Saint-Germain ancestral trust—the primary historical land grant that established the sovereign territory of the Canton of Valais in 1815.

And third was an official parchment scroll, bearing the gold-embossed seal of the French Presidency from 2017:

ORDER OF SOVEREIGN RECOGNITION.BY ORDER OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC:THE ADOPTION OF NOAH ARTHUR AND SOPHIE HÉLÈNE DE SAINT-GERMAIN BY VICTORIA VANCE AND ETHAN VANCE IS HEREBY ELEVATED TO A PROTECTED STATE DECREE. ANY INFRINGEMENT UPON THEIR PERSONS CONSTITUTES AN ACT OF AGGRESSION AGAINST THE REPUBLIC.

"Do you know what this means, Victoria?" Marcus asked, his legal mind racing as he scanned the parchment.

"It means," I whispered, tears of overwhelming vindication stinging my eyes, "that Dominic and Charles Sterling didn't just commit civil fraud. They committed an act of war against France."
