Chapter 51 - Infiltration at Midnight

The revelation hung in the cold underground air like an anvil.

"What did you say?" Ethan lowered his weapon slightly, his jaw tight.

"Your mother hid you in Chicago after your father died," Katherine sneered, her eyes darting to me with pure disgust. "She wanted you to live a weak, pathetic, ordinary life. But blood always tells. You built a multi-billion dollar empire from thirty dollars! You belong at the head of the Sterling Syndicate, not playing house with a commoner!"

"She isn't a commoner," Ethan growled, his voice vibrating with absolute fury as he raised his weapon again. "She is my wife. She is the Chairwoman. And she has ten times the strength and dignity you will ever have."

"How touching," Katherine sighed, pressing a red button under her armrest.

Red warning sirens instantly roared to life. Steel blast doors slammed down, sealing the exits. From the dark corridors surrounding the server room, a dozen heavily armed private mercenaries stepped out, laser sights locking onto our chests.

"You brought passion to a chess match, Ethan," Katherine chuckled softly, standing up with her cane. "Did you really think you could breach my island without me knowing?"

"No," I spoke up, stepping out beside Ethan, pulling out a small remote trigger. "But we knew you'd lock us in here with your main server core."

Katherine’s smile vanished. "What?"
