Chapter 83 - Sister Against Sister

Veronica stared at me, her finger resting on the red button, her body shaking hysterically as tears spilled down her cold cheeks.

"Why you?!" Veronica sobbed, her voice breaking into a raw, painful cry. "Why did you get the loving home?! Why did you get the college education, the handsome husband, the beautiful children, and the billion-dollar empire?! While I was locked in a private military facility in South America being beaten by Harrison Cross's instructors every time I failed a lesson?!"

The raw pain in her voice hit me like a physical blow. Beneath her icy facade and ruthless cruelty was a broken, abused child who had never known a single day of real love.

I stepped past Ethan, ignoring his soft warning hand on my arm. I walked right up to Veronica, stopping just two inches from the remote detonator in her hand.

"Because Harrison Cross lied to you," I said gently, my voice filled with genuine, heartbreaking empathy. "Our mother didn't abandon you, Veronica. Cross's father stole you from the clinic nursery before she even woke up from surgery. She spent the rest of her life crying for her lost baby girl."

Veronica's eyes widened in sheer shock. "L-lies..."

"It's the truth," I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out a worn, silver-framed photograph from thirty years ago. I held it out to her. "This was in our mother's secret diary. Look at the back."

With shaking fingers, Veronica took the frame. On the back, in our mother's elegant handwriting, were the words: To my beautiful twins, Victoria and Veronica. My heart will look for you forever.

The remote detonator slipped from Veronica's hand, clattering harmlessly onto the rubber floor. She sank to her knees, burying her face in her hands, weeping uncontrollably.

I knelt beside her on the cold vault floor, wrapping my arms around my twin sister, holding her tight as thirty years of buried trauma and pain poured out of her soul.
