Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup

By Monday morning, Ethan’s dramatic resignation had sent shockwaves through the global financial markets. Sullivan Group stock plummeted another 22%, plunging the corporation into an existential crisis.
At 10:00 AM, an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors was convened at the corporate headquarters on Michigan Avenue.
Evelyn Sullivan sat at the head of the boardroom table, wearing a dark navy suit, surrounded by four corporate defense attorneys. She had maneuvered to name herself temporary Acting Chairwoman, attempting to push through a vote to strip Ethan of his executive authority permanently and freeze his personal assets.
"Ethan has clearly suffered a severe psychological breakdown," Evelyn announced to the twelve board members sitting around the glass table. "His irrational behavior over the past weekend has cost this company over three billion dollars in market value. We must execute Clause 9—declaring him unfit—and assume full control of his trust shares."
"Is that so, Evelyn?" a sharp, clear voice echoed from the doorway.
The double doors opened.
I stepped into the boardroom, wearing a sleek black suit, holding a leather portfolio. Beside me walked Lucas, along with three senior forensic accountants from one of the top financial auditing firms in the country.
Evelyn slammed her palm against the table. "Security! Why is this woman allowed on executive floors?!"
"Because, Mrs. Sullivan," Lucas interjected smoothly, sliding a legal notice down the long glass table, "Ms. Claire Sullivan currently controls 51% of the primary voting shares of Sullivan Group."
The entire board gasped. Several members stood up to inspect the document.
"What?!" Evelyn shrieked. "That's impossible! Ethan's shares are locked in an irrevocable family trust!"
"A trust that contained an explicit automatic succession clause drafted by Ethan's late father fifteen years ago," Lucas explained, pointing to paragraph four. "Clause 12-B states: In the event of the CEO's resignation or unfitness, full trustee voting authority transfers immediately to the legal mother of the primary bloodline heirs."
Evelyn’s eyes went wide with sheer terror. She had spent ten years trying to erase me, completely unaware that Ethan’s father—a wise man who had never trusted Evelyn’s greed—had built a secret legal vault specifically to protect the bloodline.
I walked to the head of the table, standing directly behind the executive chair.
"Good morning, members of the board," I said, my voice commanding absolute authority. "As the controlling trustee of Sullivan Group, my first official act is to execute an immediate forensic audit of all corporate expenditures over the last five years."
I looked down at Evelyn, whose hands were trembling uncontrollably.
"Starting," I continued, "with the twelve million dollars in 'consulting fees' paid directly to Evelyn Sullivan’s private offshore shell company in the Cayman Islands."

Evelyn collapsed back into her chair, her face draining of all color.
"You're fired, Evelyn," I said softly. "Clear your desk by noon, or the federal marshals waiting downstairs will assist you."
