Chapter 57 - The True Empire

The guests departed as twilight settled over the lake, leaving our family gathered together on the private wooden dock once again.
Noah and Sophie sat at the very edge of the dock, dangling their feet over the warm, calm water, sharing a massive piece of chocolate cake, their soft laughter floating gently across the shimmering surface.
Ethan sat beside me on our vintage wooden bench, holding my hand tightly, our fingers intertwined in a comfortable, familiar hold. In his other hand, he held a brand-new framed photograph taken an hour ago—showing Noah, Sophie, Marcus, Ethan, and me standing together under the summer pavilion, smiling brightly, with nothing but open blue sky and calm waters behind us.
"Ten years ago, thirty dollars brought a broken man to your doorstep," Ethan said softly, his deep blue eyes filled with an endless, unconditional love that touched the very depths of my soul. "I had no future, no hope, and no reason to live. You gave me a home, Victoria. You gave me a family. And you showed me what true strength looks like."
"You fought for us, Ethan," I whispered, reaching up to gently trace the line of his jaw. "You walked into the fire to keep us safe."
"And I would walk through hell a thousand times over just to spend one more quiet evening right here with you," Ethan smiled, his eyes shimmering under the moonlight. "You are my Chairwoman. You are my world. And you will always be my home."
I leaned up, pressing my lips gently against his in a sweet, passionate, unhurried kiss under the glittering evening stars.
The corporate wars were finally buried forever. The ghosts of the past were gone, never to return.
