Chapter 32 - The Geneva Ledger

We couldn't wait for the court hearing. If we played by the rules of a rigged legal system, Vivian’s team would stall the proceedings until the seventy-two-hour window closed, permanently stripping me of my legal status as Noah and Sophie’s mother.

At 5:00 AM, Ethan’s private jet lifted off from Chicago, cutting through the dawn clouds toward Geneva, Switzerland.

Sitting in the leather armchair of the cabin, I stared out at the rising sun. Ethan sat beside me, wrapping his warm, calloused hand over mine, pulling my knuckles to his lips.

"We are going to find the original egg retrieval logs from ten years ago," Ethan said, his deep voice thick with absolute resolve. "Dr. Thorne told us before he died that he kept a duplicate backup of all Vance family genetic procedures in a private vault near Lake Geneva."

"And if Vivian really is their biological mother?" I asked, a tear finally slipping past my lashes, tracking down my pale cheek. "Ethan... what if the lab tests show her DNA?"

Ethan pulled me into his arms, burying his face in my hair, holding me so tightly I could feel the powerful, steady rhythm of his heart.

"You gave them life, Clara," Ethan whispered fiercely into my ear. "You held them when they had fever. You worked three jobs to buy their milk. You taught them how to walk, how to speak, how to love. No piece of paper and no egg donor will ever make that woman their mother. You are their mother. Forever."
