Chapter 68 - Blood on the Snow

As the Swiss authorities cuffed Lord James and the remaining members of The Shadow Council, the blizzard outside began to clear, revealing a breathtaking sunrise over the snowy peaks of the Alps.
Marcus sat on a bench, holding little Lily tightly in his arms, tears streaming down his bruised face. Ethan walked over, kneeling beside his brother, and placed a firm, loving hand on Marcus’s shoulder.
"You crazy bastard," Ethan said with a soft, emotional laugh. "You almost made me believe you really turned on us."
Marcus looked up, smiling weakly through his injuries. "I knew you and Victoria would figure out the code. I just needed to keep James's eyes on me until you got here."
"You did good, brother," Ethan said, pulling Marcus into a fierce hug. "Family stays together. Always."
I stood by the shattered glass dome, watching the golden sunlight hit the mountain tops. My phone chimed with a secure video call from Chicago.
I answered it immediately. The screen lit up with the smiling, healthy faces of nine-year-old Noah and seven-year-old Sophie.

"Mommy! Daddy!" Sophie cheered. "The police officers gave us ice cream! Are you guys coming home now?"
Tears of pure joy welling in my eyes, I held the phone so Ethan could see them. "Yes, my loves. Mommy and Daddy are coming home right now."
