Chapter 104 - The Ghost Contract

The heavy rainfall battered the dark glass windows of our subterranean command center in downtown Chicago. It was 3:00 AM. The air was thick with tension, smelling of warm coffee and cooling server racks.

While Noah and Sophie slept under heavy guard in a fortified room three floors below us, Ethan, Marcus, and I stood around a glowing glass holographic table displaying Alexander Blackwood’s public legal filings.

"I ran the digital signature from Alexander's press conference," Marcus said, his fingers flying across the console. "The document he held up isn't a recent forgery. The blood-seal on the paper dates back exactly ten years. It’s an irrevocable blood trust created under the old European Syndicate law."

I leaned over the illuminated glass, tracing the scanned lines of text with my eyes. My heart felt heavy, but my mind was icy sharp. "Ten years ago, right before Alexander's plane went down, my father was forced to sign a secret credit agreement to keep Sterling Enterprises afloat. I thought it was a standard corporate loan."

"It wasn't a loan, Victoria," Ethan spoke softly, stepping up beside me and placing a warm, solid hand on the small of my back. "Alexander’s father was the silent financier behind the old syndicates. He used that credit line to attach a shadow marriage contract to your family’s bloodline. If your father defaulted—or if Alexander 'died'—control of the entire trust reverted to the Blackwood estate."

"So Alexander didn't just fake his death to escape the aviation crash," I realized, the horrifying puzzle pieces clicking together. "He faked his death to disappear while Ethan and I did all the heavy lifting. He let us fight Genevieve, destroy Archibald, clear the board, and grow the company's valuation from fifty million to sixty billion dollars."

"And now he wants to harvest the crop," Ethan growled, his deep blue eyes burning with a dangerous, predatory light. "He thinks he can walk into our house, take our empire, and claim my wife."

"He has a court order freezing our primary accounts at 8:00 AM," Marcus warned, showing a countdown timer on the main monitor. "In less than five hours, the SEC will suspend your voting rights as Chairwoman."

I looked at the timer, then turned to Ethan and Marcus, a cold, unwavering smile touching my lips. "Alexander spent ten years hiding in the dark, waiting for the right moment. But he made one fatal calculation."

"What's that?" Ethan asked, his gaze locking onto mine.

"He thinks I'm still the frightened twenty-two-year-old girl he abandoned ten years ago," I said, my voice cutting through the quiet room like a razor blade. "Marcus, prepare the private offshore reserves. Ethan, get your suit ready. At 8:00 AM, we don't hide in court—we walk right into the boardroom and show Alexander Blackwood what ten years of survival looks like."
