Chapter 85 - The North Sea Citadel

"Twenty-four hours, Katherine," Arthur Vance’s recorded voice played through the command center speakers, smooth and unbothered by the tempest howling around him on the screen. "That is the life expectancy of your former mother-in-law in this North Sea gale. A fitting end for an adulteress who polluted the Vance name."

The camera zoomed in on Eleanor’s face. She was shivering violently, her lips blue, her eyes wide with a madness born of absolute helplessness. She looked directly into the lens, mouthing two words over and over: *Save me.*

"However," Arthur's voice continued, "Eleanor is of no consequence to me. She is merely the bait. What I require is my true legacy. Liam, Lucas, Leo, and Mia."

The screen flickered, displaying four biometric waveforms corresponding exactly to my children’s DNA sequences.

"The sovereign trusts established by the founding Directorate in Zurich were coded with a triple-helix biological fail-safe," Arthur explained. "Seventy billion dollars in gold bullion, sovereign debt notes, and private military charters scattered across fifty-four nations. When I faked my demise, those accounts were sealed under the Sovereign Protocol. They can only be unsealed by the living genetic imprint of myself... and the next generation."

Arthur turned to face the camera directly, his silver hair whipping in the sea spray.

"Bring my grandchildren to Citadel Alpha in the North Sea," Arthur said. "Bring them freely, and I will grant you a seat on the Sovereign Directorate. Refuse... and I will trigger the automated liquidation sequence. Vanguard Tower, your Swiss holdings, your London estates—every cent you fought to reclaim will be burned to ashes, and my men will hunt you across this earth until your children belong to me anyway."

The screen went black.

Silence settled over the underground vault, thick and suffocating.

Alexander walked up behind me, his gaze fixed on the blank monitor. "Citadel Alpha is a fortified offshore radar platform constructed during the Cold War. It sits thirty miles off the Scottish coast in international waters. It possesses its own anti-aircraft batteries, surface-to-ship torpedo tubes, and a private garrison of two hundred elite mercenaries. An amphibious assault is suicide."

"Then we don't assault it with an army," I said, rising slowly to my feet, wiping the rain and tears from my face.

"What do you propose?" Alexander asked, his eyes narrowing.

"Arthur thinks he understands what a mother will do," I replied, my voice turning to pure ice. "He thinks I will come to negotiate for my children's safety, or crawl before him like Eleanor did for thirty years."

I turned to look at my four children. They were not crying. They were not trembling. They were looking at me with the eyes of predators who had been pushed into a corner.

"Liam," I said. "Prepare the orbital override. Lucas, extract every line of code from the offshore relay Tristan gave us. Leo, check the munitions. Mia... pack your go-bag."

Alexander looked at me, a mixture of awe and terror in his eyes. "You're taking the children with you?!"

"Arthur wants the Vance bloodline," I whispered, loading a fresh clip into my custom Kimber .45. "I'm going to give it to him. And then I’m going to watch my children dismantle his empire piece by piece."
