Chapter 52 - The Zurich Vault

Arthur’s smile widened, revealing teeth as cold and sharp as porcelain. "Defiance. I expected nothing less. It runs in the blood."
With a flick of his wrist, the tactical operators lowered their weapons in unison. The red lasers vanished from our chests.
"I have no intention of taking you by force in a public hall in Mayfair, Katherine," Arthur said, his voice a low, terrifying purr. "That is the clumsy tactic of amateurs like Eleanor. In exactly forty-eight hours, the Sovereign Conclave convenes at the Black Forest fortress in Baden-Baden. You will bring Leo, Maya, Lucas, and Chloe. If you do not appear voluntarily, the Sovereign Founder overrides will execute."
"Overrides?" I demanded, narrowing my eyes.
"Every sovereign trust fund, every encrypted patent holding, every single cent of the Vance Global conglomerate that you seized yesterday operates on the bedrock protocols I personally wrote into the Geneva charter in 1982," Arthur said, turning slowly on his heel toward the private rear exit. "At midnight on the second day, Vance Global will be liquidated into sovereign escrow, rendering your victory entirely worthless. And the children’s legal custody will automatically revert to the surviving Patriarch under the Zurich Bloodline Accord."
He paused at the threshold of the shadows, casting a singular, chilling look over his shoulder.
"You have two days to explain to my sons and daughters why their mother thinks she can outmaneuver the man who built the modern financial world."
With that, Arthur Vance dissolved into the darkened archway, his private guard vanishing behind him like mist.
The moment the heavy steel doors locked shut, Alexander holstered his weapon and immediately sprinted toward the control console. "Lock down the perimeter! Call in Falcon Unit. I want an absolute aerial and ground quarantine over the Regent's Park safehouse!"
"Alexander, wait," I said, my voice tight. I turned toward Eleanor, who was still kneeling in the puddle of Christian’s cooling blood, weeping into her trembling, manicured hands.
I grabbed the matriarch by the lapel of her shattered tweed coat and dragged her up to eye level.
"Look at me, Eleanor!" I commanded.
Eleanor blinked through bloodshot, terrified eyes, shivering violently. "He’s back... God forgive us, he came back... He never died in that avalanche... It was all a culling... He waited for the weak ones to die..."
"Is it true?" I shook her, my fingers digging into her collarbone. "Were my children conceived through his genetic vault in Zurich? Did Julian know?"
Eleanor let out a cracked, hysterical laugh. "Julian was impotent from childhood, Katherine! He was a pathetic, terrified little boy! Arthur planned this thirty years ago! He left seven vials in the Zurich cryogenic vault—the 'Obsidian Line.' He ordered me to find an exceptional woman—a woman with pure aristocratic genetics and unmatched intellect—to bear the final generation. You were chosen, Katherine! You were selected before you ever met Julian!"
The revelation struck me like a physical blow, knocking the breath from my lungs. Every memory of my whirlwind courtship with Julian, every sterile doctor’s visit in Geneva, every document I had ever signed... it had all been an orchestrated harvest.
"You disgust me," I whispered, shoving her back onto the cold marble.
May you like
"He will take them, Katherine!" Eleanor screamed after me as I turned away. "He doesn't care about Vance Global! He cares about the four minds he engineered! You cannot beat Arthur Vance! No one has ever survived him!"
"Then I will be the first," I said without looking back.
