Chapter 69 - The Ghost Army of Zurich

Three hours later, Sovereign Base Alpha was crawling with British military intelligence, Royal Navy task forces, and international asset forfeiture investigators.
We had been airlifted back to London under heavy military escort, touching down on the private helipad atop the Vanguard Sovereign Tower in the dead of night. Rain swept across the illuminated glass spire, reflecting the glittering expanse of the London skyline beneath us.
Inside the penthouse war room, the atmosphere was thick with tension.
On the massive digital wall, Alexander projected the decrypted intelligence files extracted from Tristan’s terminal before the Scottish base was turned over to authorities.
"Tristan Vance wasn't working alone," Alexander explained, pacing before the illuminated maps. "Arthur Vance established the Obsidian Protocol twenty-two years ago, but he didn't fund it entirely through Vance Holdings. He entered into a clandestine partnership with an international conglomerate of legacy oligarchs and private defense contractors known as 'The Apex Syndicate.' They operate out of Geneva, Singapore, and Dubai."
"And Tristan was their chosen candidate to succeed Arthur," Maya added, rapidly deconstructing the encrypted packet Tristan had sent during his escape. "Arthur promised the Syndicate that when he died, his sovereign bloodline would hand them complete control of Vance Holdings' commercial logistics, transatlantic cargo shipping, and private financial channels."
"And when Mom seized the empire, that deal collapsed," Liam concluded, crossing his arms. "So now the Apex Syndicate has lost forty billion dollars because of us."
"Worse than that," a new voice broke into the war room.
We turned as the heavy double doors opened. Marcus Sterling, our chief corporate counsel and former prosecutor who had helped me dismantle Julian, walked in carrying a sealed red diplomatic folder. His face was pale, his eyes lined with exhaustion.
"Marcus," I said, stepping forward. "What news from Eleanor's hearing?"
"Eleanor Vance is no longer in federal holding," Marcus said, his voice dropping into a grave whisper.
A cold chill raced down my spine. "What do you mean she isn't in holding? She was denied bail three days ago in high court!"
"Two hours ago, an armed tactical team intercepted her prisoner transport convoy on the M25 motorway," Marcus explained, handing me the red folder containing police photographs of burning escort vehicles and neutralized police cruisers. "It was an extraction operation executed with military precision. No casualties among the guards, but Eleanor Vance was extracted via helicopter. Interpol has issued a red notice, but she's vanished."

"Tristan broke his mother out," I whispered, the puzzle pieces clicking together with terrifying clarity. "Arthur kept Tristan a secret from Eleanor for twenty-two years, but Tristan doesn't care about Arthur's grudges. He needs Eleanor because Eleanor still holds the master signatory rights to the Vance family's legacy trust accounts in Zurich."
