Chapter 45 - The Geneva Collapse

The automated override did not just trap the snipers; it triggered the city-level security protocol of the Old Town banking district. Sirens began wailing through the ventilation shafts from the streets far above.

"The Swiss Federal Police are two minutes out," Alexander reported, checking his encrypted tactical comms. "The perimeter alarms have breached the federal wire. This conclave is burned."

Lord Vane and the surviving Patriarchs crawled out from beneath the blackened oak table, their ceremonial robes torn, covered in stone dust and humiliation. Vane looked at Eleanor with unadulterated hatred.

"You brought ruin to our order," Vane hissed, his voice shaking. "You are stripped of your standing, Eleanor Vance. Stripped of your titles, your access, and your name. The Directorate acknowledges Katherine and her children as the sole legal stewards of the Vance trust."

"No!" Eleanor screamed, scrambling on her knees across the floor toward the Patriarch. "You cannot do this to me! I gave forty years of my life to the Directorate! I built the financial network that kept your families wealthy! You cannot abandon me for this... this commoner!"

"You lied to us about the treasury," another Patriarch spat as he hurried toward a concealed emergency exit behind the crescent wall. "You are finished, Eleanor."

Christian, however, was not finished. Using the chaos of the Patriarchs' retreat, he dragged himself to his feet, pulling a backup detonator from his boot. His eyes were wide, wild, and completely unhinged.

"If I don't leave this mountain with the sovereign keys," Christian whispered through clenched teeth, "none of you leave at all."

He slammed his thumb down on the red trigger.

A rhythmic shudder tore through the foundation of the vault. Charges placed in the drainage tunnels beneath the floor detonated, cracking the granite flagstones like dried clay. Deep subterranean water from the nearby lake began gushing through the fissures, flooding the lower levels with icy, roaring torrents.

"Move!" Alexander roared, lifting Maya into his arms while I seized Lucas and Liam by their jackets. Leo kept pace right beside me as we sprinted toward the northern service lift.

Behind us, Eleanor lunged forward, trying to grab my coat, her painted nails clawing like talons. "Give them back to me! They belong to the Vance name!"

I turned, my gaze freezing her in her tracks. With a single, decisive shove, I pushed her backward. She stumbled, falling into the rising, muddy water, her emerald gown soaking through, dragging her down beneath its immense weight.

Christian grabbed his mother by her collar, dragging her toward the secondary stairs as the ceiling began to collapse in showers of granite boulders.

We made it into the service elevator just as a massive iron beam crashed down across the entrance, sealing the Conclave chamber in darkness, floodwaters, and rubble.
