Chapter 79 - The Rooftop Extraction

The snowstorm engulfed Zurich in a swirling shroud of white as our tactical convoy raced down the Bahnhofstrasse toward the imposing, granite facade of the Bankhaus von Metzger—the ancient private banking institution that housed the Vance Sovereign Vault.
Tristan’s convoy of armored black Mercedes had already arrived. The private bank’s grand bronze doors were sealed, guarded by private Swiss security personnel whose loyalties had been bought with Apex Syndicate cash.
High above the street, perched on the rooftop of the Gothic cathedral across the plaza, Alexander and Liam set up an overwatch position with heavy sniper rifles.
"Tristan and Eleanor just entered the underground vault elevator with Julian," Alexander reported through the comm-link. "The bank’s digital perimeter is completely isolated. Leo, are you inside their local intranet?"
"I’m in," Leo’s voice came back from the mobile command van parked two blocks away, where Maya was operating the auxiliary decoders. "The moment Julian places his hand on the biometric pad, the vault’s primary terminal will request the secondary lineage authorization. I have the blood-code encryption packet ready to transmit on my mark."
Inside the bulletproof interior of my SUV, I adjusted my earpiece, watching the entrance of the bank through high-powered night-vision binoculars.
"Katherine," Maya warned suddenly. "We have an anomaly."
"What kind of anomaly?"
"The bank’s private helipad on the roof just activated its landing beacons," Maya said, her fingers clattering against her keyboard. "A heavy Sikorsky S-76 helicopter is approaching from the north. It’s not Tristan’s aircraft."
"Whose is it?"
"It’s registered to a holding company called *The Black Sun Directorate*," Maya said, her voice dropping into sudden dread. "Mother... that's the apex council of the entire European shadow syndicate. The people Tristan answers to."
Before I could process the implication, Julian’s panicked voice crackled through our hidden transmitter inside his lapel:
*"Tristan... what is this?! You said we were transferring the funds to Singapore! Why does the terminal say 'Asset Liquidation to Directorate Master Account'?!"*
Tristan’s voice answered, laced with cold mockery:
*"Shut up and press your hand against the glass, Julian. You didn't think this money was for us, did you? The Directorate funded Arthur Vance's rise thirty years ago. Now that the Vance line has proven itself incompetent, the Directorate is calling in the debt. Place your hand on the scanner, or I put a bullet in your kneecap right here."*
A wet slap echoed over the audio link, followed by Julian’s cry of pain.
"He's forcing his hand onto the scanner!" Leo yelled. "Secondary authorization requested! Transmitting the blood-code now!"
"Hold!" I ordered, my instincts screaming. "Leo, wait!"
"I can't hold, Mom!" Leo shouted. "If I don't send the code in three seconds, the terminal defaults to emergency failsafe and incinerates the server core!"
"Send it!" I commanded.
Over the audio, the heavy, mechanical clunk of the vault’s massive four-foot-thick titanium doors disengaging shook the microphone.
Then, the automated voice of the Bankhaus von Metzger system spoke in crisp, digitized German:
*"Lineage Protocol Verified. Four billion, two hundred million dollars transferred to the Sovereign Trust of Katherine Vance and Heirs. Master administrative control assigned. All secondary syndicate access: Terminated."*
A stunned, deadly silence fell over the vault channel.
*"What?!"* Eleanor shrieked, her voice reaching a hysterical, glass-shattering pitch. *"What did you do, Julian?!"*
May you like
*"It wasn't me!"* Julian cried. *"It was Katherine! She owns it! She owns everything!"*
Gunfire erupted inside the bank.
