Chapter 86 - The Blood Cipher of CERN

Valerie stared at Vanessa’s illuminated hand. For five excruciating seconds, nobody in the vault breathed. The armed guards kept their weapons trained, their fingers resting tense against the triggers.

Then, Valerie burst into genuine, crystalline laughter.

"Brilliant," she said, clapping her hands together softly. "Eleanor was always the most dangerous mind in the entire syndicate. She let David think he had won, let him build his towers, while she stitched the fail-safe directly into the rebellious daughter’s skin. How delightfully poetic."

Valerie stood up from the head of the table. She stepped around the obsidian slab, her high heels clicking rhythmically on the gray stone, stopping six feet from Julian and Vanessa.

"Then the terms change," Valerie said, her voice dropping to a low, businesslike whisper. "We don't do this here. The Bank for International Settlements is a dead node. The real infrastructure isn't under Geneva. It's across the border, twenty kilometers northwest."

Julian’s eyes narrowed. "CERN."

"The Large Hadron Collider was never just a particle physics experiment, Julian," Valerie said, watching his eyes. "Who do you think funded the subterranean construction in the 1980s? Who paid for the twenty-seven-kilometer cryogenic ring? The European governments paid for the science. Meridian paid for the sub-basement. Beneath the secondary collision ring sits the only quantum optical computational array capable of processing the Chimera decryption without melting the host's nervous system."

"You want us to interface with a quantum array?" Vanessa asked, disgust dripping from her words. "You saw what happened to the clones in New York. Their brains were scrambled eggs."

"That was because David was using outdated silicon interfaces," Valerie countered. "At CERN, the lattice doesn't download into you. You become the broadcast terminal. We initiate the Sovereign Grid, we seize control of the European energy and financial clearinghouses, and we dismantle the old state apparatus once and for all. No more wars. No more corrupt central banks. Just pure, algorithmic order, administered by us."

"By you, you mean," Julian said.

"By the three of us," Valerie said, extending her hand toward Julian, palm open. "We are the only ones left who understand the code. We are the survivors of David Vance's butchery. Why give the world back to the bureaucrats who allowed him to build us in the first place?"

Julian looked down at her outstretched hand. He saw the Chimera serpent ring on her index finger, its emerald eyes glinting in the pale fluorescent light.

"Let the city's power come back on first," Julian said.

Valerie paused, studying him. "A gesture of good faith?"

"A condition," Julian replied. "Geneva wakes up, or we don't take a single step toward the border."

Valerie sighed, turning back to the table. She touched a glass panel on the console. "Colonel Brandt. Restore the Cointrin and Cantonal grids. Let the sheep have their lights."

Across the lake, outside the granite walls, a sudden hum vibrated through the foundation. Miles away, the towering glass facades of Geneva ignited into blazing white, yellow, and blue light as power surged back into the transformers.

"Done," Valerie said, turning back to Julian with cold, triumphant eyes. "Now, brother... prepare yourself. We descend into the ring tonight."
