Chapter 61 - The Global Convergence

The listing vessel rocked as heavy ocean swells battered the hull. The roar of distant turbine engines echoed across the stormy Atlantic—not their small stealth craft, but the heavy, rhythmic thrum of approaching military helicopters.

"Coast Guard and Federal Maritime Strike Teams," Miller said, looking at his tactical wrist monitor. "They intercepted David's emergency broadcast. They're thirty seconds out."

Julian walked out of the server vault, stepping over the threshold into the corridor. Vanessa was waiting for him. Without a word, she reached out and pulled him into a tight, desperate embrace. For the first time in ten years, Julian didn't calculate an escape vector. He simply held his sister while the alarms died down around them.

In the upper observation lounge, the reinforced doors burst open as Federal agents swarmed the suite, pinning Eleanor Mercer to the floor before securing her in tactical restraints. As they dragged her out, her manicured appearance utterly ruined, she locked eyes with Julian across the atrium.

"You think you won, Julian?" Eleanor laughed, a bitter, broken sound that echoed down the metal shaft. "You think you freed the world? You gave the code to David! You gave it to your father!"

Julian’s brow furrowed. He touched his earpiece. "David. The transfer went through. Confirm receipt of the public encryption keys."

Static crackled on the line. Then, David Mercer’s voice came through, sounding entirely different from the weary, grieving father who had spoken from the lighthouse.

The warmth was gone. The sorrow had vanished. What remained was a cold, absolute authority that made Julian’s blood run cold.

"Thank you, Julian," David said softly. "Eleanor was always too impatient. She thought the duplicate was ready. I knew he would fail against you. That’s why I brought you here."

Julian froze. "What did you say?"

"A public domain rollout would destroy the monetary system, Julian," David explained calmly, the hum of massive subterranean turbines audible in the background of his feed. "I didn't spend thirty years hiding in the dark to let the world share what belongs to the Mercer family. You eliminated Marcus. You eliminated Eleanor. And you eliminated the duplicate."

"David..." Julian whispered, a sudden, sickening realization dawning in his chest.

"The lighthouse was never my bunker, son," David’s voice whispered through the earpiece. "It was the broadcast tower."

Fifty yards out from the starboard side of the sinking *Aegis Sovereign*, the dark surface of the ocean erupted.

A massive, black-hulled nuclear dreadnought—bearing no flags, no markings, and a hull twice the size of a modern aircraft carrier—broke the surface of the freezing Atlantic, its colossal conning tower rising against the rain like a leviathan summoned from the abyss.

On Julian's datapad, a new alert flashed in stark, crimson letters:

*MASTER PROTOCOL ACTIVE: THE ARCHITECT HAS RESUMED COMMAND.*

*TARGET ACQUIRED: JULIAN MERCER.*

Across the churning black water, the deck hatches of the dreadnought slowly began to slide open.
