Chapter 79 - The Core Severance

The shockwave hurled Vanessa across the floor, while the electromagnetic clamps holding Julian released with a sharp metallic clatter. The duplicate fell backward into the life-support cradle, smoke rising from his cybernetic implants as the bunker’s primary terminal shrieked in digital failure.

*BIOMETRIC LINK CORRUPTED.*

*ERROR: DUAL-SIGNATURE DESYNCHRONIZATION.*

*TOWER NINE ENTERING AUTONOMOUS CONTAINMENT PROTOCOL.*

Eleanor immediately dragged Vanessa behind an armored server rack as the ceiling sentry gun began firing erratically into the walls, its targeting sensors blinded by the electromagnetic surge. Julian lunged across the desk, grabbing the master override key—the original physical flash drive he had retrieved from the dreadnought—and slammed it into the central mainframe terminal.

"Julian, what are you doing?" Eleanor screamed over the deafening gunfire. "The containment protocol will seal this entire installation under molten lead!"

"Tower Nine isn't just broadcasting—it's drawing power from the continental seismic anchors!" Julian shouted back, his fingers flying across the clacking mechanical keys, rewriting the core assembly vectors. "If I don't sever the feedback loop right now, the tectonic fault lines under the Eastern Seaboard are going to trigger from the resonance! Dad turned the whole tectonic shelf into a giant capacitor!"

The scarred Julian weakly raised a hand from the pod, his breathing shallow, his cybernetic eye extinguished. "You... you can't stop it... Julian. The Architect... it's already outside. It’s not in the machine anymore."

Julian paused for a split second, looking down at his broken predecessor. "What do you mean it's outside?"

"David didn't just build me... and he didn't just build you," the dying clone whispered, his lips turning blue. "There were three."

Before Julian could demand an explanation, the terminal screeched a final warning tone. The cooling lines ruptured above them, dumping superchilled liquid nitrogen into the server trenches.

"We have to go! NOW!" Eleanor yelled, grabbing Julian’s shoulder and hauling him toward the emergency blast tunnel at the rear of the chamber.

Julian hit the final execute command, severing the connection between Tower Nine and the regional seismic grid, before sprinting into the darkness of the evacuation tunnel just as the blast doors slammed shut with hydraulic finality.
