Chapter 64 - The Submerged Network

The black water swallowed them whole. Outside the thick acrylic viewports of the submersible, the chaotic tumult of the storm above vanished, replaced by a suffocating, ink-black silence broken only by the faint hum of the electric drive.

Through the rear optical feeds, Julian watched the death throes of the *Aegis Sovereign*. The carrier’s illuminated silhouette split in two under the crushing weight of the ocean, a brilliant flash of blue electrical arcing through the water as its primary transformers imploded, before the dark waves closed over it completely.

"Sonar contact," Vanessa whispered, her face bathed in the emerald glow of the tactical display. "Bearing three-three-zero. The dreadnought isn't hunting us with depth charges. Julian... look at the frequency spectrum."

Julian leaned over the console. Instead of the typical high-energy pings of active naval sonar, the dreadnought—designated on their sensors as the *Leviathan-Zero*—was broadcasting a continuous, ultra-low frequency carrier wave directly into the ocean floor.

"It’s an acoustic optic link," Julian realized, his stomach dropping. "He isn't just floating out here to stay off sovereign radar. The transatlantic fiber-optic trunk lines run right through this trench. He’s physically tapping into the underwater data backbone."

"Which means?" Vanessa asked, glancing at him with a mixture of dread and dawning comprehension.

"Eleanor thought power meant holding corporate shares and boardroom seats. David knew that infrastructure is the only true sovereignty. By anchoring directly over the Atlantic junction and deploying the public encryption keys I gave him, he has established himself as the single cryptographic gateway between North America and Europe. Every banking transaction, every military transmission, every automated supply-chain ledger... it’s all passing straight through the *Leviathan's* core."

Julian pulled up the telemetry map. The dreadnought was dropping tethered, heavily armored submersible nodes down into the oceanic trench, anchoring massive physical splices into the deep-sea cable bundles.

"We gave him the crown," Vanessa said quietly, her voice tinged with bitter irony. "All that talk about breaking the family curse, and we just handed the knife back to the man who sharpened it."

"He doesn't have complete control yet," Julian countered, his eyes hardening as he isolated a flickering anomaly on the signal trace. "The public ledger rollout requires a seventy-two-minute synchronization cycle to fully validate against the global nodes. If the root key hasn't locked into the Frankfurt and New York exchanges, the system is still vulnerable to an internal parity fault."

"And where is the parity server?"

Julian pointed at the center of the tactical display, where the colossal mass of the *Leviathan-Zero* sat anchored against the seabed shelf.

"In the belly of that ship," Julian said. "He thinks we went down with the carrier. He isn't watching his lower intake valves. We don't run from this, Vanessa. We take the submersible straight into his ballast intakes."
