Chapter 71 - The Leviathan's Wake

The titanium blast doors blasted inward in a blinding flash of thermite and concussive force.
Through the billowing white smoke, a dozen heavy assault troops in black combat armor fanned out, their laser sights sweeping the room with lethal coordination. Behind them, stepping through the burning wreckage of the threshold, walked Evelyn Laurent.
She was dressed in a tailored black cashmere coat, pristine despite the violence of the breach, her diamond-encrusted walking stick tapping rhythmically against the blood-stained steel floor. Beside her walked a man Emma had never seen—a man with cold, aristocratic features, wearing the insignia of the International Maritime Court.
"You always were remarkably stubborn, Emma," Evelyn said, her voice smooth, cutting through the wail of the alarms with chilling composure. "Just like your father. Wasting a multi-billion-euro empire on sentimental ideals."
Emma stood in front of Lily, her pistol raised, steady and unwavering, aimed directly between Evelyn’s eyes. "It's over, Evelyn. The Genesis Archive just went out over every unencrypted satellite network on earth. By breakfast, Interpol, the Hague, and every treasury department from London to Tokyo will have your warrants."
Evelyn didn't look worried. In fact, a slow, predatory smile curled the corners of her lips.
"Did you really think the Directorate was just an investment club, my dear?" Evelyn tilted her head, gesturing slightly with her cane.
The aristocratic man beside her pulled a heavy radio from his coat and spoke two words: "Surface now."
Outside the reinforced observation windows, the ocean violently churned. A monolithic black hull, easily five times larger than *The Leviathan*, broke the surface of the North Sea, shedding millions of gallons of frothing seawater. It was an unmarked, nuclear-powered ballistic submarine, its missile silos illuminated by cold deck lights.
On the submarine’s conning tower stood a row of heavy machine guns, and strapped to the railing, battered, bloody, but alive, was Daniel.
"You broadcasted the files to the world, Emma," Evelyn whispered, taking a step forward as her troops raised their weapons, locking twelve red laser dots directly onto Lily’s chest. "Which means you just gave every government on earth a reason to hunt this child to the ends of the earth to claim the decryption keys. And the only vessel leaving this sector alive... belongs to me. Drop the gun, or Daniel dies first, followed by your daughter."
Emma's finger trembled on the trigger. Lily squeezed Emma's coat tightly from behind.
Before Emma could speak, the radio at Evelyn’s hip crackled with a frantic, terrified voice from the submarine’s bridge:

A concussive shockwave hit the rig, shattering the outer observation glass into a billion glistening shards.
