Chapter 49 - Sovereign Authority
Evelyn recovered her composure with lightning speed, her eyes narrowing into slits of pure venom. "Guards! Subdue these intruders immediately! They are international fugitives under red notices!"
Four armed operatives stepped forward, drawing suppressed weapons from their jackets—but before they could raise them, Eleanor stepped into their path, holding aloft a heavy brass seal bearing the twin lions of the Laurent crest.
"Any man who draws iron against the bloodline of Arthur Laurent forfeits his commission and his life under Article One of the Syndicate Charter!" Eleanor roared with terrifying ferocity. "Lower your weapons, or your families will be destitute before midnight!"
The mercenaries hesitated, their eyes darting between Evelyn and the ancient seal that commanded their absolute contracts.
"She has no proof!" Evelyn shrieked, the veneer of aristocratic elegance cracking completely. "The biometric sequence was encrypted by Arthur! Without the living master key, she is just a nameless beggar I plucked from an orphanage!"
Emma walked straight toward the podium, ignoring the frozen guards. She climbed the steps until she was standing barely three feet from Evelyn.
"You spent twenty-six years treating me like dirt, Evelyn," Emma said in a low, lethal whisper that echoed through the silent hall. "You made Lily cry on her birthday because you wanted to remind me that we owned nothing. But Arthur knew what you were. He knew you were greedy, arrogant, and careless."
Emma pulled her phone from her pocket and plugged it directly into the master podium's primary biometric interface.
"The master key was never a string of code, Evelyn. It was a genetic harmonic sequence that Arthur encoded into his granddaughter's memory." Emma looked into the camera above the terminal. "System override: Authorize Lily Laurent, Fourth Sovereign."
The terminal screens flashed violently from red to deep gold.
