Chapter 50 - The Directorate Falls

Pandemonium erupted in the grand hall.

The digital displays flickered as billions of dollars in offshore syndicate funds instantly froze, their authorization access locking out every Directorate member in the room. Shouts of panic and outrage filled the air as the assembled billionaires checked their secure personal phones, watching their accounts vanish behind unbreachable sovereign firewalls.

"What have you done?!" Evelyn screamed, lunging at Emma with clawed hands. "That wealth belongs to the Syndicate! You have ruined us all!"

Emma caught Evelyn’s wrist in a vise-like grip, twisting it back until the older woman sank to her knees with a cry of pain.

"I didn't ruin you, Evelyn," Emma said coldly, staring down into the terrified eyes of the woman who had terrorized her youth. "I freed us from you. Your accounts are frozen. Your mercenaries aren't being paid. And the British authorities have just received the complete files detailing thirty years of Thorne’s, Christian's, and your international money laundering."

Outside the high arched windows, the wail of dozens of police and anti-terror sirens began to echo through the London streets, growing louder with every passing second.

The Directorate members broke into a frantic stampede for the exits, completely abandoning Evelyn on the dais. The mercenaries holstered their weapons and melted into the shadows, unwilling to die for an employer whose bank accounts were now empty.

Daniel’s voice crackled into Emma’s ear. "Emma! Met Police and MI6 tactical units are breaching the lobby perimeter! We have to extract right now before the cordon locks down the building!"

Emma released Evelyn’s wrist, stepping back in disgust. "Enjoy the rest of your life in a supermax facility, Mother."

Evelyn, sprawled on the floor, suddenly began to laugh. It was a dry, hollow, terrifying sound that made the hairs on Emma’s arms stand on end.

"You think you won, Emma?" Evelyn wheezed, looking up through strands of disheveled hair, a bloodthirsty smirk spreading across her face. "You think this was my only play?"
