Chapter 108 - Bloodline Revocation

Victoria looked up from her chair, her tear-stained face lighting up with a sudden, desperate hope. "Julian! Eleanor! Please, god, they’re going to execute me! They made me do it! Genevieve told me that if I seduced Julian, she would give me the Upper East Side brownstone and the Paris portfolio! She told me you were barren, that you had no right to the Whitaker fortune!"

Julian didn't even look at her. The woman he had flaunted before three hundred guests at our anniversary—the woman whose hand he had held while announcing our divorce to New York's financial elite—was nothing more to him now than a ghost in a torn dress.

"Shut her up," Genevieve snapped to the guards, but none of them moved.

Helena stood at the foot of the gallery stairs, her weapon steady, while outside, the low, thrumming hum of high-altitude military transport helicopters began to rattle the reinforced ceiling of the amphitheater.

"You brought the Federal Reserve auditors?" the Chairman of the Eclipse asked, his calm demeanor slipping for the first time as his eyes darted toward the ceiling.

"Auditors?" I laughed softly, stopping five paces from Genevieve. "No. The Eclipse owns the auditors. They own the judges in Luxembourg. They own the bailiffs who died in the plaza. I didn't call the authorities, Chairman. I called the foreign sovereign funds whose gold you’ve been secretly leveraging since 1974."

The screens across the upper gallery suddenly flickered, turning from green trading matrices to stark, flashing crimson warning banners.

Genevieve lunged toward the master pedestal with her left hand, screaming at the terminal technician: "Execute the dump! Override the clearinghouse! Use the Vance master key!"

Julian stepped forward. He reached into his coat pocket, pulled out the heavy gold fountain pen his father had given him on our wedding day, and slammed it down onto the glass interface of the console, shattering the scanner surface.

"The Vance key is revoked, Mother," Julian said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. "I signed the divestment order in the casemates. Every share, every asset, every bond held under the Vance name was transferred unconditionally to Eleanor Whitaker thirty minutes ago."
