Chapter 71 - The Seventh Seal

"I wondered if Vance’s sentimental attachment to you would compromise the schedule," the Magistrate said, tapping his cane against the metal floor. The sharp click echoed like a gunshot through the cryogenic cathedral. "You were always my masterpiece, Daniel. A perfect synthesis of will and biological obedience."

Daniel didn't flinch. "Call off your dogs, old man. Your doubles are dead. Your platform is at the bottom of the North Sea. There’s nowhere left to run."

"Run?" The Magistrate smiled thinly, a chilling, bloodless gesture. "Why would I run from my own vault? You misunderstand the architecture, Daniel. The wedding wasn't meant to capture you. The altar wasn't an ambush. It was an activation trigger."

The old man gestured to the glass pod holding the sleeping Elena.

"To unlock the sovereign treasury, the biological protocol requires four anchors and one key," the Magistrate explained softly. "Subject One: the son you raised—Leo. Subject Two: Julian. Subject Three: who perished in Munich to provide the neural core data. Subject Four: the girl before you. And finally, Subject Zero: yourself."

Leo suddenly stepped forward, his eyes locked on the master console beside the cryo-pod. "Dad... the terminal isn't waiting for your handprint. It's already scanning your heart."

Daniel looked down at his chest. The subdermal pulse monitor Vance had treated earlier was glowing faint amber through his tactical vest. The countdown on Leo’s tablet had stopped at *00:00:01*.

A deep, mechanical shudder reverberated from beneath the permafrost, miles below their feet.

The cryogenic fluid inside the master pod began to drain with a violent hiss. The heart monitor attached to the real Elena flatlined for three terrifying seconds, then surged back to life with a violent, rhythmic chime. Her eyelids fluttered open, her dark eyes focusing directly on Daniel through the fogged glass.

Her lips parted. Behind the glass, she didn't say his name.

She whispered a single, terrifying phrase: *"Seal the chamber. There’s another one."*

Before Daniel could reach the pod release handle, the vault's blast doors slammed shut behind them with the deafening force of an hydraulic press, severing Vance and his tactical squad outside.

Red emergency lighting washed the entire room in crimson.

From the speaker system above, a digitized voice cut through the alarm klaxons, cold and completely unfamiliar:

Deep beneath the ice floor, directly below where Daniel and his sons stood, something massive and alive began to slam violently against the reinforced iron bulkhead.
