Chapter 70 - The Architect's Will

They followed the trail of frozen crimson into the heart of the facility: a cathedral-sized chamber excavated from solid blue ice.

In the center of the chamber stood the Master Cryo-Pod. Thick power cables pulsed with liquid nitrogen, venting pale clouds of white mist across the grated floor. The glass faceplate of the pod was clear, cleared of frost by an interior heating element.

Inside, suspended in a state of suspended animation, lay the real Elena.

She looked exactly as Daniel remembered from eight years ago—youthful, unscarred, her features peaceful beneath the soft glow of the stasis monitors. Her fingers rested against her chest, clutching a small, archaic silver pendant that Daniel recognized immediately: the twin to the wedding band he still wore around his neck.

Standing at the foot of the pod was Subject Four.

The little girl had discarded her heavy thermal coat. She wore a simple white smock, her bare arms covered in faint biological barcodes. In her right hand, she held an empty submachine gun, its barrel still smoking faintly in the freezing air. In her left hand, she held a shattered glass vial containing a golden serum.

"Julian," she whispered, her voice echoing off the frozen walls.

Julian stepped forward from behind Daniel’s legs. He didn't show fear. He walked toward the girl as if drawn by an invisible magnetic current.

"You brought him," she said, looking past Julian to Daniel. Her eyes were deep, startlingly lucid—far beyond the years of a child. "Subject Zero. You finally remembered the way home."

"Put the weapon down, sweetheart," Daniel said gently, lowering his carbine, taking slow, deliberate steps forward. "It’s over. The platform is gone. The Syndicate can't hurt you anymore."

"It isn't over, Daniel," a voice spoke from the shadows behind the master console.

A figure emerged from the frost-shrouded observation booth overlooking the chamber. It was an elderly man in a tailored woolen suit, leaning heavily on a silver-topped cane. His face was weathered, lined with the absolute arrogance of unchecked power.
