Chapter 47 - Voices in the Static

Before Daniel could process the horrifying revelation on the screen, the terminal’s audio speakers crackled to life, cutting through the hum of the draining pumps. A burst of white noise gave way to a clear, recorded voice that made Daniel’s entire body freeze.

"Daniel. If you are hearing this, Arthur has lost his battle with time, and you have finally found what I buried."

It was Claire’s voice—precise, calm, but laced with the deep, quiet exhaustion of a woman who knew she was running out of days.

"I know what you are thinking," the recording continued, accompanied by the faint rustle of medical charts in the background. "You think I lost my sanity at the end. You think I committed a crime against nature to satisfy a legal document. But Arthur never told you the real origin of the Vance sovereign trust. The trust was never intended for Arthur’s lineage. It was established by my family after the war, funded by the seizure of corporate assets that Arthur’s father had stolen."

Leo stood transfixed, listening to his mother's voice echo through the subterranean laboratory.

"Arthur spent thirty years rewriting the legal framework," Claire explained. "He altered the clauses to demand an impossible three-generational genetic bridge—a requirement engineered specifically so that my bloodline would default, allowing his foreign holding company to seize the sovereign patents. He killed my father. He poisoned my sister. And when he discovered I was carrying Leo, he made it clear our son would never survive to inherit."

Daniel tightened his grip around the sleeping girl in his arms, feeling the faint, rhythmic flutter of her heartbeat against his ribs.

"This child is my genetic twin, gestated to act as the legal keystroke," Claire’s voice softened, breaking for a fraction of a second. "She holds the master key to the sovereign patents. But more than that... she is your daughter in every way that matters, Daniel. Love her as you loved Leo. Protect them both. Because Arthur was only the first wave. The men who financed him are already on the lake."

The recording cut out abruptly, replaced by the deafening crack of high-caliber gunfire echoing down the stairwell from the manor above.
