Chapter 77 - Dawn Over Lake Geneva

The first pale streaks of amber and lavender began to bleed over the jagged crest of the eastern Alpine ridge, cutting through the lingering pall of smoke that drifted lazily above the estate grounds.
We stood together on the stone terrace overlooking Lake Geneva—Marcus, Leo, Maya, Eleanor, and I. The dark, menacing tiltrotor aircraft that had landed with such apocalyptic fury were now completely dormant, their rotors locked in place, their systems permanently disabled by the sovereign override command humming silently within the estate's servers.
Below us, the mirror-like surface of the lake reflected the breathtaking beauty of the sunrise, turning the water into a sheet of liquid gold.
Maya stood close to me, leaning her head gently against my shoulder, her tablet finally powered down and resting safely in her backpack. "What do we do now, Aunt Claire? Where do we go from here?"
I looked out across the boundless expanse of the water, feeling the cool, clean mountain air fill my lungs. The scars of the past—the betrayals, the narrow escapes, the blood and the tears—were still part of who we were, but they no longer defined our future. The debt was paid in full, the ghosts were laid to rest, and the world outside was waking up to a brand-new day.
"We go home," I said softly, a genuine, unreserved smile touching my lips.
Marcus wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close against his side, while Leo nodded approvingly and Eleanor offered a quiet, dignified bow of her head.

We turned our backs to the dark stone of the estate, leaving the old world of shadows, secrets, and syndicates far behind us in the dust of history. The horizon stretched out before us, vast, radiant, and entirely unwritten.
The morning belonged entirely to us.
