Chapter 6 - The Briefcase Man
The entire grand ballroom was plunged into a terrifying, suffocating vacuum of absolute silence. The horrific revelation of the violent strangulation attempt completely paralyzed the elite crowd.
The Bride began to hyperventilate. "She's lying! Dad, look at her, she's clearly crazy! She's having a mental breakdown! Security, get her out of here!"
But before the guards could even take a single step, the massive double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open once again.
A man in his forties walked briskly into the room, purposefully pushing his way through the dense crowd of stunned, silent guests. He possessed a sharp, neatly trimmed beard and wore a highly tailored dark grey suit over a crisp black shirt.
He was carrying a heavy, incredibly thick brown leather briefcase tightly in his right hand.
This wasn't a random guest. His name was Thomas. He was the family's absolute most trusted, highly aggressive, and utterly ruthless lead legal investigator. He was the man responsible for handling the family's most sensitive, classified corporate secrets.
When the Bride saw Thomas walking toward the dance floor, her knees completely buckled. She swayed dangerously in her white strapless wedding dress, nearly collapsing onto the marble floor.
Just three days ago, the Bride had secretly wired three million dollars to an offshore account in Thomas's name. She had paid him an absolute fortune to completely bury the private investigation into the car crash and permanently close the file on her sister's death. She thought she had successfully bought his silence forever.
She had absolutely no idea that Thomas’s loyalty to Caroline and her father could never, ever be bought.
Thomas ignored the Bride completely. He walked straight past her and stopped directly beside Caroline.
