Chapter 12 - the boardroom betrayal

To completely understand how deep the rot went within the family's multi-billion-dollar corporate empire, one had to examine the emergency board meeting called before dawn.

The towering skyscraper office was dimly lit, casting long shadows across the polished mahogany conference table. Three senior executive directors sat in stiff silence, their expensive suits looking suffocatingly tight.

They had assumed Caroline was dead and buried. They had planned to systematically vote the youngest sister into permanent control of the company, effectively carving up the conglomerate's lucrative tech assets for themselves.

Beside her stood Thomas, carrying the heavy brown leather briefcase that had already destroyed the bride's entire life.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Caroline stated coldly, her voice echoing off the glass walls. "I trust you didn't miss me too much while I was busy surviving your assassination attempt."
