Chapter 55 - escaping death's door
"Drop your weapons!" A heavily armed mercenary squad appeared from the blind spots, tightly locking down all escape routes for Thomas and the special task force. Vance had anticipated this move and secretly laid a deadly trap.
But Thomas never stepped into a battle without foreseeing all scenarios. He smirked coldly, dropping an extremely powerful smoke grenade onto the marble floor. Thick white smoke flared up, obscuring their vision.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the special task force put on infrared goggles and returned fire. Deafening gunshots tore through the night. Thomas dashed through the dense hail of bullets, crashed through a shattered glass window, and jumped straight down onto the rain-flooded lawn below.
A bullet grazed his shoulder causing him to bleed, but Thomas didn't stop. He hugged the hard drive tightly to his chest, running for his life toward the armored vehicle waiting at the edge of the forest. The vehicle sped off at lightning speed, leaving behind a chaotic battlefield.
