Chapter 17 - the healing gardens

Away from the relentless demands of the corporate boardroom and the flashbulbs of the financial press, the sprawling family estate offered a quiet, deeply sacred sanctuary of healing.

The golden hues of early evening painted the massive stone fountains and the manicured green lawns in a breathtaking, cinematic glow. The traumatic echoes of the mountain road and the hospital gown felt like a distant, horrifying nightmare.

Caroline sat alone on a quiet stone bench near the edge of the private rose garden, holding a delicate porcelain teacup in her hands. The heavy emerald necklace rested safely inside the family vault, but she wore a simple silver pendant gifted by her father.

Footsteps crunched softly against the gravel path behind her. She didn't need to turn around to know who was approaching with that familiar, steady, and protective stride.

The Father sat down gently on the bench beside her, pulling a light woolen shawl over her shoulders to protect her from the cool evening breeze.

"You've been working twelve-hour days all week, Caroline," the Father noted softly, his weathered face creased with affectionate concern. "You need to allow yourself time to truly heal."

Caroline leaned her head against her father's shoulder, a quiet, genuine smile touching her naturally pink lips. "I am healing, Dad. Being here, knowing we are safe... that is the true cure."
