Chapter 53 - THE NEW ARCHITECT

Six months later.
The penthouse suite of the Bennett Holding Corporation was a fortress of digital warfare. Clara Bennett stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the Chicago skyline.
Sitting behind a massive, multi-monitor workstation in the center of the room was Hannah Mercer.
She wore a sharp, tailored black suit, her dark hair pulled back severely. The transformation was absolute. The compassionate waitress was dead. The Heiress of Shadows had taken the throne.
"The New York families are mobilizing," Clara announced, turning away from the window. "Don Corrado just authorized a massive capital transfer to purchase the abandoned shipping routes on the East Coast. If he secures those routes, he controls the port."
"He isn't going to secure the routes," Hannah stated flawlessly, her fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard.
Hannah had spent the last six months utilizing the biometric access to Gideon Sterling’s shadow network. She didn't just understand the accounts; she understood the architecture of the extortion.
"I am overriding Corrado’s primary holding trust in the Caymans," Hannah said, her dark eyes reflecting the cascading green code on the monitors. "I am using Julian Croft’s backdoor protocols to initiate a localized asset freeze. Corrado’s money is trapped."
Clara smiled, a cold, predatory expression. "Excellent. The moment his check bounces, the port authority will terminate his contract. We swoop in and purchase the routes through a legitimate Bennett subsidiary."
"Transfer complete," Hannah confirmed, leaning back in her leather chair. "Corrado is officially bankrupt. He won't survive the week when the other New York families realize he can't pay his soldiers."
Clara walked over to the desk, looking at the young woman who had become her most lethal partner. "You have a gift for this, Hannah. You see the structural weaknesses in their empires just like your father did."
Hannah flinched slightly at the mention of Gideon Sterling, but she quickly suppressed the emotion. She was not her father. She was using his weapons to destroy his legacy.
"We still have a problem, Clara," Hannah said, bringing up a new encrypted file on the screen. "While I was inside the Cayman network, I found a ghost ledger. Someone is siphoning capital from the remaining Sterling accounts before I can lock them down."

Clara frowned. "Who?"
"I don't know," Hannah replied, her eyes narrowing. "But the routing numbers are domestic. Someone inside Chicago is trying to steal the throne while we are distracted by New York."
