Chapter 38 - THE GHOST'S INHERITANCE
The aftermath of the revelation was a suffocating, toxic silence that poisoned the next forty-eight hours.
Hannah did not return to the apartment she shared with Caleb. She didn't return to Daniel’s house. She vanished into the city, turning off her phone and severing all ties.
Caleb locked himself in his architectural studio. He refused to open the door for Alexander. He refused to read the text messages Elena sent. He sat in the dark, surrounded by the blueprints of Bridge House, his mind trapped in an endless, looping nightmare of betrayal.
Elena sat in her temporary hotel suite, staring blindly at the Chicago skyline. Alexander stood behind her, his hands resting heavily on her shoulders.
"We broke them, Alexander," Elena whispered, her voice devoid of any hope. "We broke them to save them, and now they have nothing."
"They have the truth," Alexander replied, his voice firm but laced with deep sorrow. "A lie, no matter how comfortable, is still a cage. Caleb will survive this. He is stronger than you think."
"And Hannah?" Elena asked, turning to look at him. "She just discovered her entire life is a fabrication. She lost her fiancé, her father, and her identity in exactly sixty seconds."
Before Alexander could answer, Elena’s secure laptop chimed.
It was a highly encrypted email, routed through the same proxy servers Daniel Mercer had used to hide Margaret Sterling’s files.
Elena opened it. There was no text. Just a digital drop-pin location and a time: Navy Pier. 2:00 AM.
"It's Daniel," Alexander said, leaning over her shoulder. "He wants a meeting."
"No," Elena said, her eyes narrowing as she analyzed the encryption key. "Daniel's routing codes are sloppy. This encryption is military-grade. It’s flawless."

"This isn't Daniel Mercer," Elena breathed. "This is the Architect. The man who designed the Third Archive. He knows we found it, and he knows the syndicate is collapsing. He wants to make a deal."
