Chapter 35 - THE IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE

The revelation was a catastrophic explosion that threatened to destroy everything they had spent years trying to build. Hannah and Caleb were engaged. They were deeply, unconditionally in love. And they were blood relatives.

"Does she know?" Elena choked out, grabbing Daniel’s collar, her eyes wild with panic. "Does Hannah know?"

"No," Daniel signed, weeping openly. "I raised her as my own. I protected her. Elena made me swear never to tell her the truth unless her life was in danger. I couldn't ruin her life. I couldn't break her heart."

"You have to tell them," Alexander said, his voice dropping into a desperate, pleading register. "Daniel, they are going to get married. You cannot let them do this."

"If I tell them, it destroys them both," Daniel signed, his face twisted in agony. "Caleb has finally found peace. Hannah loves him. If I reveal this, Caleb loses the only woman who ever truly understood him, and Hannah loses the father she thought she had."

Elena stood up, pacing the atrium like a caged animal. Her tactical mind, the brilliant intellect that had outsmarted billionaires and global syndicates, was completely paralyzed by the sheer, devastating cruelty of the situation.

"We have to stop the wedding," Elena said, her voice trembling but resolute. "We have to find a way to stop it without telling them the truth. If we tell them, it breaks them."

"You can't hide this from Caleb, Elena," Alexander argued gently, stepping into her path. "He has spent his entire life being lied to by his family. If he finds out we knew this and didn't tell him, he will never forgive us."

Before Elena could answer, the heavy front doors of Bridge House swung open.

Hannah and Caleb walked into the atrium. They were holding hands, smiling, completely unaware of the apocalyptic secret that had just been unearthed in the dark.

Caleb stopped when he saw his father, Elena, and Daniel standing in the center of the room. He saw the tears. He saw the tension.

He raised his hands and signed: "What is going on? Why are you all crying?"

Elena looked at Caleb. She looked at Hannah. She looked at the diamond ring sparkling on Hannah’s finger.

The choice was impossible. Tell the truth and destroy their world, or keep the secret and let them live a lie.

Elena took a slow, agonizing breath, stepping forward into the light.
