Chapter 35 - Bloodline of Kings

The silence that settled over the command chamber was absolute. The hum of the server banks sounded deafening against the revelation that hung in the air.
"What did you just say?" My voice was barely a whisper, trembling with a mixture of disbelief and surging panic. "Lucas's father died in a factory collapse eight years ago. He was a shift worker—an ordinary man who never had a penny to his name!"
Sylvester motioned for Marcus to leave the room. As the heavy steel doors slid shut, Sylvester stood up slowly, fighting through the stiffness in his wounded shoulder, and walked over to the reinforced glass overlooking the subterranean courtyard.
"His name was Julian Vance," Sylvester began, his voice grave. "Julian was not a laborer, Elena. He was the eldest son and primary heir of the Vance Patriarchate—the family that built the Sovereign Banking Consortium from the ground up. Ten years ago, Sterling orchestrating a bloody coup within the board. Julian discovered the conspiracy, faked his death with the help of trusted allies, and assumed a forged identity to protect the woman he loved. You."
Tears blurred my vision as memories of Julian rushed back—his gentle hands, calloused not from industrial labor, but from the deliberate effort to hide his aristocratic origins; his worn leather jacket; the quiet, haunted sadness that occasionally flickered across his eyes whenever he held me in our tiny cramped apartment.
"He never told me," I choked out, covering my mouth as a sob broke through my chest. "He let me believe he was just a regular man. We struggled for bread, Sylvester! We counted every copper coin while Lucas was sick with fever!"
"He did it to keep you alive," Sylvester said softly, stepping close and placing his uninjured hand against the nape of my neck, drawing my forehead gently against his broad chest. "If Sterling’s hounds had caught even a whisper of where Julian had hidden, they would have butchered you both in your sleep. Julian took the secret to a real grave when the old freight dock collapsed, but he left behind an irrevocable trust. A bloodline charter encrypted with his biological signature."
Lucas stood up slowly, clutching his sketchpad against his chest. "Mr. Sylvester... am I not just Lucas?"
Sylvester crouched down on one knee, ignoring the sharp spike of pain that flashed across his face from his shoulder wound. He looked directly into the boy's eyes with profound respect.

"You are Lucas," Sylvester said firmly. "You are the boy who holds his head high when monsters insult him. You are the boy who stood brave in the ballroom while cowards mocked you. But you are also the rightful owner of the ground Sterling walks upon. And together, we are going to strip him of every single thing he stole from your blood."
