Chapter 60

gered for what felt like an eternity before fading back toward the main street. i didn't wait around. we hurried to the car, and i drove recklessly toward the only person i could trust in this nightmare. elias was an old family friend, a man who had walked away from a dangerous life years ago and now ran a quiet auto body shop on the outskirts of the city. when i pulled into his garage, bleeding and trembling with two terrified children, he didn't ask questions. he quickly rolled down the metal security gate and ushered us into his reinforced back office. i showed him the flash drive and the news report. elias's face hardened into a grim mask as he locked the door. "your husband just signed your death warrant," he muttered, pulling a heavy metal lockbox from under his desk. "but they don't know who you're dealing with now."
