Chapter 50

The high-speed pursuit boat sliced through the choppy waves, the salty spray stinging Ryan's face. The radar showed a single blip ahead, moving rapidly toward the rugged coastline of Corsica. It was Marcus's yacht.
Ryan pushed the throttle to the maximum, the engines screaming in protest. He slowly closed the distance, the sleek, white yacht coming into view against the backdrop of the rising sun.
As Ryan approached, Marcus appeared on the aft deck, armed with a heavy assault rifle. He opened fire, the bullets tearing up the water around Ryan's boat.
Ryan didn't flinch. He steered with one hand, returning fire with his suppressed pistol. He aimed not at Marcus, but at the yacht's exposed fuel lines near the stern.
His shots found their mark. Sparks flew, followed by a sudden, violent explosion that ripped through the back of the yacht. The vessel shuddered and began to lose speed, thick black smoke billowing into the morning sky.
Ryan brought his boat alongside the crippled yacht, leaping aboard with his weapon drawn. The deck was a chaotic mess of shattered fiberglass and burning debris.
He found Marcus lying near the starboard railing, his leg pinned beneath a heavy, fallen beam. The old enforcer was bleeding profusely, his weapon out of reach.
Ryan walked slowly toward him, his face a mask of cold, unrelenting judgment.
"You win, Ryan," Marcus coughed, blood staining his lips. "You always were the better killer."
"This wasn't about being a killer, Marcus," Ryan said, his voice devoid of emotion. "This was about protecting my family. Something you never understood."
Marcus let out a bitter, raspy laugh. "Family is a weakness. It makes you vulnerable."
"No," Ryan replied, raising his pistol. "It makes you invincible."
He didn't hesitate. A single, suppressed shot echoed over the sound of the crashing waves.
May you like
Ryan turned his back on the burning yacht, stepping back onto his pursuit boat. He didn't look back as the vessel slowly sank into the dark depths of the Mediterranean. The war was truly over. The ghost of his past had been extinguished.
He set a course back to the mainland, the rising sun warming his face. He was going home to Lily and Mia. They would build a new life, far from the shadows, a life where the only legacy they inherited was love, not blood. The darkness was finally behind them, and the horizon stretched open and bright.
