Chapter 41

The revelation that Marcus was alive sent a shockwave through the villa. Ryan immediately initiated the highest level of lockdown protocol. The heavy iron gates of the estate slammed shut, and the perimeter defenses were armed. He ordered Lily and Mia to stay inside the fortified panic room beneath the wine cellar, a precaution they hadn't needed since their escape from New York.

Silas paced the length of the study, his weathered face etched with deep concern. "Marcus isn't just an enforcer, Ryan. He's an architect of terror. He trained your father, he trained half the commission. If he wants Mia, he won't stop until he burns this entire valley to the ground."

"Why now?" Ryan demanded, his mind racing through the tactical possibilities. "Why wait three years to make a move?"

"Because he needed time to rebuild his network," Silas deduced. "He probably used Victor and the Russians as pawns to weaken you, waiting for the perfect moment to strike when you thought you were safe."

Ryan walked over to the gun safe hidden behind a bookshelf, unlocking it with a swift biometric scan. He pulled out his custom-made, suppressed pistol—the very weapon he had sworn never to use again. The cold metal felt both foreign and terrifyingly familiar in his hand.

"He wants a war," Ryan said, his voice dropping to a lethal, icy register. "I'll give him one he won't survive."

That evening, as the sun dipped below the rolling Tuscan hills, the first sign of trouble arrived. A convoy of unmarked, heavily armored black SUVs appeared on the winding road leading up to the villa. They moved with military precision, stopping just out of range of the estate's automated defenses.

Ryan stood on the balcony, watching the vehicles with a cold, calculating gaze. He knew Marcus wouldn't attack blindly. He was testing the waters, probing for weaknesses. The true battle was about to begin, and Ryan was ready to unleash the monster he had kept buried for years to protect his family.
