Chapter 49

The main warehouse at the Genoa port was a cavernous structure, echoing with the sounds of maritime traffic outside. Inside, it was dimly lit, filled with crates of illegal weapons and contraband. Ryan moved stealthily, navigating the labyrinth of cargo, his senses hyper-alert.
He knew Marcus wouldn't have left this crucial facility completely undefended. As he approached the central office, a squad of elite mercenaries emerged from the shadows, their weapons raised. They were Marcus's personal guard, men who had stayed behind.
A brutal firefight erupted. The warehouse became a chaotic battleground of ricocheting bullets and exploding crates. Ryan fought with the ferocious intensity of a man with nothing left to lose. He used the environment to his advantage, flanking his enemies, utilizing flashbangs and precise, lethal bursts of fire.
He took a grazing shot to his shoulder, the pain sharp and sudden, but he ignored it, his adrenaline surging. He pushed forward, dropping the last of the mercenaries with a calculated double-tap.
The warehouse fell silent. Ryan reloaded his weapon, his breathing ragged, and kicked open the door to the central office.
Inside, sitting behind a cluttered desk, was a man Ryan didn't recognize. He was young, terrified, and unarmed.
"Where is he?" Ryan demanded, his gun leveled at the man's head.
"He... he's not here!" the man stammered, raising his hands. "He took a boat! A private yacht! He left an hour ago!"
Ryan cursed, his mind racing. Marcus had anticipated the trap. He had sacrificed his men and his facility to ensure his own escape.
"Where is the yacht headed?" Ryan asked, his voice a dangerous whisper.
"I... I don't know the exact destination," the man cried. "But he mentioned Corsica. He has a safehouse there."

Ryan lowered his weapon, leaving the terrified man behind. He sprinted out of the warehouse, commandeering a high-speed pursuit boat moored at the docks. He fired up the engines, the powerful vessel tearing through the dark waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
He wouldn't let Marcus escape. He would hunt him to the ends of the earth if necessary. The storm had broken, and Ryan was the lightning, striking relentlessly until the darkness was finally consumed.
