Chapter 34 - Disarmed and Disowned

"You think this is over because you breached one subterranean complex?" Thomas hissed, struggling to haul himself upright against the blood-smeared console. He wiped a streak of bloody foam from his lips, his eyes gleaming with the cornered madness of a career bureaucrat whose kingdom was collapsing around him. "The network is decentralized, Arthur. The Pentagon contracts, the weapons development pipelines in Taiwan, the shadow logistics through Constellation Security... Julian was just the figurehead. A handsome face for the Armed Services Committee. You can't kill an idea with a presidential warrant!"

"A cartel isn't an idea, Thomas," Arthur said quietly. "It's just a conspiracy of greedy men who forgot their oaths. And like all conspiracies, it collapses the moment the ledgers are made public."

Arthur reached into his tactical load-bearing vest and produced a military-grade cryptographic drive, identical to the one I had extracted from the ballroom's secure courier three hours ago. He slotted it into the primary terminal.

"Broadcast to all nodes on the Pentagon Global Command Network," Arthur ordered Hayes, who was now operating the terminal under direct federal orders. "Send the unredacted files from Operation Desert Sentry. Route them to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the Department of Justice, and the press pool at the White House."

"No!" Julian screamed, his voice breaking into a high-pitched wail. He scrambled across the floor, his hands reaching desperately for the console keys, but I planted my boot firmly in the center of his chest, pinning him to the deck.

Julian looked up at me, his eyes wide and frantic, pleading for the privilege he had enjoyed his entire life. "Marcus, stop! If that goes out, my life is over! My career, my marriage to Senator Sterling's daughter, my entire future! I’ll go to Leavenworth! They execute people for treason, Marcus! You can't do this to your own brother!"

"My brothers died in the Euphrates valley," I said, leaning down so close he could smell the cordite on my skin. "Their names were Miller, Rodriguez, Vance, and Kowalski. You left them to burn so you could ride back to base in an air-conditioned command Stryker and write yourself a citation for gallantry. You're not my brother, Julian. You're just a thief in a blue coat."

Eleanor watched the terminal screens cycle through hundreds of thousands of lines of code. The names of high-ranking generals, corporate lobbyists, defense contractors, and foreign intermediaries flashed across the monitors in cascading green text. The evidence was irrefutable: altered drone footage, manufactured after-action reports, shell company accounts, and illicit weapons shipments diverted to non-state actors in the Middle East.

Her life's work—the grand dynasty of the Vance family she had painstakingly built through political marriages, forged heroism, and ruthless social climbing—was being broadcast to every command post on the planet in real time.

"I gave you everything," Eleanor whispered, her gaze drifting toward me, her voice trembling with a mixture of horror and revulsion. "I fed you, clothed you, sent you to the finest academies... and you repay me by tearing down your family's name."

"You didn't build a name, Mother," I said, stepping off Julian's chest as tactical zip-ties were secured around his wrists by Sergeant Major Hayes. "You built a guillotine. You just didn't realize you were the one who had to stick your neck beneath the blade."

The terminal let out a sharp, definitive sequence of chimes.
