Chapter 68 - The Shattered Dynasty

"Drop the detonator, Emily!" Vance shouted, his veneer of aristocratic superiority completely evaporating into high-pitched hysteria. "We control the intelligence agencies! We control the judiciary! You destroy this server hub, and you guarantee your own death warrant across six continents!"
"I died at Thanksgiving," I said coldly.
I pressed the switch.
A concussive shockwave ripped through the floorboards beneath us. The secondary generators blew outward in a blinding flash of orange fire and twisted steel. The screaming whine of the cooling fans died instantly, plunging the server farm into red emergency lighting and deafening alarms.
The contractors hesitated, their discipline breaking under the structural shudder of the platform. Marcus capitalized on the chaos, dropping two guards with precision double-taps. I leveled my submachine gun and fired a suppressing sweep across the console, shattering the monitors and severing the main power conduits in a storm of electrical sparks.
Vance lunged for the manual override console, but I moved faster. I closed the distance, caught his wrist, twisted it until the bone snapped, and slammed his skull into the shattered glass of the mainframe terminal. He collapsed to his knees, gasping for air, blood pooling across the keyboard.
Behind us, a secondary screen remained intact, powered by an auxiliary battery. A satellite video feed flickered onto the display.
It was Eleanor.
She was sitting in a police holding cell in Dover, having been intercepted by maritime authorities after Marcus’s team leaked her offshore shell company coordinates. She was clutching the steel bars, weeping hysterically, her eyes locked onto the monitoring camera.
"Emily!" her voice crackled through the dying auxiliary speaker. "Emily, please! They’ve frozen the accounts! Arthur’s offshore trusts are completely locked! I have nothing left... I have no home, no money, no one! You can’t leave me like this! You’re my daughter!"
I walked over to the terminal, leaned down toward the camera lens, and looked my mother dead in the eyes.
May you like
"You brought this on yourself, Eleanor," I whispered.
I drew my sidearm and put a single round through the screen, shattering her image forever.
