Chapter 147 - The Cost of Obedience

"I am nothing of yours," I said.
Arthur sneered, his hand dropping toward a hidden drawer beneath the desk. "You are my creation. And this creation has reached the end of its utility."
Vance fired.
The round took Arthur directly in the right shoulder, spinning him violently into the acrylic wall. Blood sprayed across the clear viewport, dark and thick against the deep-sea blackness outside.
Arthur collapsed against the base of the desk, clutching his shattered shoulder, gasping for air. But even as the blood pooled through his fingers, his eyes burned with that familiar, sadistic arrogance.
"Do it," Arthur wheezed, his mouth filling with crimson foam. "Shoot your own father. Prove to the world that you're the monster Eleanor always said you were. Pull the trigger, Emily. Finish the dinner."
I didn't lower my weapon, but I didn't shoot. The rage that had sustained me across frozen continents, through burning vaults and sunken fortresses, suddenly congealed into a cold, diamond-hard clarity.
"No," I said, lowering the rifle just enough to look directly into his dying eyes. "You don't get to die as a martyr in a subterranean bunker, Arthur. You don't get an epic finish."
I stepped behind the mahogany desk and pulled the leather-bound master ledger into my arms. Beside it lay the master biometric terminal—the primary link connecting his offshore financial engine to the global banking clearinghouses in New York, London, and Tokyo.
I placed my thumb on the glass sensor.
*BIOMETRIC CONFIRMED: STERLING, PRIMARY HEIR.*
"What... what are you doing?" Arthur’s voice lost its edge, trembling for the first time as the crimson puddle widened beneath him.
"You told me I was the laundromat," I said, my fingers flying across the terminal’s mechanical keys, executing the emergency liquidation protocol Hayes had revealed in Zurich. "You said every account, every asset, every shell company was registered in my name to keep you invisible."
May you like
The screen flickered violently as lines of code began to execute.
"If the assets are mine, Arthur... then so is the debt."
