Chapter 151 - The Unopened Door

Three days later.
The abandoned naval station on the southeastern tip of Iceland was silent except for the low drone of our portable diesel generator.
Vance sat by the iron woodstove in the corner of the concrete bunker, his broken shoulder set in a clean sling, his face hollow with exhaustion as he cleaned the carbon from his sidearm. Outside, the Icelandic blizzard battered the reinforced steel shutters, wrapping the bunker in an impenetrable cocoon of white noise.
On the wooden table between us lay Arthur’s leather-bound ledger.
I had spent seventy-two hours turning its waterlogged, hand-written pages. It wasn't just a financial ledger. It was a diary of ownership—an architectural blueprint detailing an unbroken line of control stretching back five generations.
Every political appointment, every corporate consolidation, every family tragedy had been staged, funded, and managed by a centralized body Arthur referred to only as *The First Table.*
And on the final page, written in fresh ink that had dried only hours before our crash onto the rig, was a single entry dated the exact day of that fateful Thanksgiving dinner:
*Asset Emily: Subjugation phase failed. Independence confirmed. Proceed to Protocol Seven. The true heir is awakened at the ancestral coordinate.*
The satellite radio on the table suddenly clicked.
It did not ring. It did not ping. It emitted a burst of unencrypted military-grade telemetry, followed by the soft, mechanical hum of an open carrier signal.
A woman's voice came through the small speaker.
It was neither Eleanor nor any of the operatives we had crossed. It was a voice that was eerily, terrifyingly identical to my own—carrying the exact same pitch, the exact same cadence, and the exact same slight hesitation on the consonants that I had carried since childhood.
May you like
"You really thought you were the only one, didn't you, Emily?" the voice whispered from the darkness of the speaker. "You thought you were the daughter who escaped. Come home to the table. Dinner is finally being served."
Across the room, the radio panel’s GPS coordinates flickered to life, locking onto an unmapped estate nestled deep within the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts—less than fifty miles from the Connecticut house where the first blow had fallen.
