Chapter 48

Panic spread through the enemy ranks like a virus. The mercenaries, realizing that money and loyalty meant absolutely nothing in the face of guaranteed incineration, immediately threw their weapons onto the marble floor, raising their hands in desperate surrender.

The Phantom, completely unhinged by the collapse of his final gambit, let out a scream of pure rage and lunged toward Silas, firing his rifle wildly.

Silas moved faster than humanly possible. He slipped beneath the line of fire, surging forward like a shadow. With a brutal, sickening crack, Silas shattered the Phantom’s right arm at the elbow, forcing the rifle from his grip. Before the former MI6 operative could even register the pain, Silas drew his tactical combat knife and drove it cleanly, lethally, upward into the Phantom’s carotid artery.

The Phantom collapsed, blood spraying across the pristine white marble, pooling into the intricate patterns of the Vance family crest. The leader of the European rebellion was dead, gasping his last breath in a pool of his own arrogance.

Marco’s men immediately flooded the foyer, securing the surrendered mercenaries. Outside, snow had begun to fall, drifting through the shattered front doors and landing softly on the crimson puddles, painting a hauntingly beautiful portrait of the war’s violent conclusion.

Down in the bunker, Clara watched the live feed of the Phantom’s death. She looked at the countdown timer on her screen. It read fifteen seconds. Her hands trembled slightly as she typed in the biometric abort sequence.

"Protocol aborted," the computerized voice chimed cheerfully.

Clara let out a long, shuddering breath and gathered a sleeping Julian into her arms. When she finally ascended from the bunker and stepped into the ruined grand foyer, Silas was standing amidst the wreckage. His chest was heaving, his face splattered with the blood of their enemies. He looked at Clara, his storm-gray eyes burning with absolute, total worship. They had defended their kingdom with ruthless brilliance, etching an undeniable truth into the bedrock of the underworld: the Vance family could never be broken.
