Chapter 37

The next forty-eight hours were a masterclass in organized, systemic violence. Clara Vance orchestrated the counter-offensive from the fortified underground bunker beneath the estate, moving syndicate strike teams across the city with the precision of a grandmaster playing chess.

She didn't sleep. She barely ate. She functioned on pure adrenaline and the cold, burning desire to protect her family.

Silas was in a medically induced coma in the secure hospital wing of the bunker, the surgeons working tirelessly to repair the internal damage. Clara visited him for exactly five minutes every hour, holding his hand, whispering promises of victory into his ear, before returning to the war room.

"Boss," Marco said, stepping into the bunker. He looked exhausted, his tactical gear covered in dust. "We hit Thorne's primary logistics hub on the south side. It's completely disabled. But he isn't there. He's a ghost."

"He isn't a ghost, Marco, he's a coward," Clara said, staring at the digital map of the city illuminated on the massive monitors. "He is hiding behind his money. Have our cyber-teams cracked the server keys my father stole?"

"Yes, ma'am," Marco nodded grimly. "But we found something else in the data logs. Graham didn't bypass the estate's security grid from the outside. The blackout was initiated from a terminal inside the main house."

Clara froze. The implication hung in the air like a guillotine blade. "Are you telling me we have a mole? Someone let my father inside?"

"It appears so," Marco said softly. "I ran the terminal ID. The blackout was triggered from the security booth at the east gate. The guard stationed there during the breach was a man named Russo. He claimed he was knocked out by Graham's mercenaries."

"Bring him to me," Clara commanded, her voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "Now."

Ten minutes later, Russo was dragged into the bunker. He was a young, heavily tattooed enforcer who had been with the syndicate for three years. He looked terrified, trembling as Marco forced him into a metal chair opposite Clara.

Clara stood up from the command desk. She walked slowly toward the young man, the emerald-cut diamond on her finger catching the harsh fluorescent light.

"Russo," Clara said quietly. "You let Graham Hart into my home. You let a madman put a knife to my son's throat."

"No! I swear, Boss!" Russo panicked, shaking his head violently. "They jumped me! I didn't see them coming! I would never betray Mr. Vance!"

"You wouldn't betray Mr. Vance," Clara noted, tilting her head. "But you didn't think I was a threat. You thought I was just the boss's wife. A civilian. So when Thorne offered you a million dollars to look the other way for five minutes, you took it."

"How... how do you know that?" Russo gasped, his eyes wide with shock.

"Because I am the one who built the financial routing algorithms for this syndicate," Clara said, pulling a printout from the desk and tossing it into his lap. "You were stupid enough to let Thorne deposit the bribe into a Cayman account registered to your mother's maiden name. I found it ten minutes ago."

Russo stared at the paper, tears of absolute terror spilling down his face. "Please, Mrs. Vance. Please have mercy. I didn't know they were going to hurt the kid."

Clara looked down at him. In the past, she might have felt pity. But the woman who had been pushed into the fountain was gone. She was the head of the syndicate now. She had to send a message that the Vance family was impregnable.

She reached out and pulled the heavy 9mm pistol from Marco's thigh holster.

"There is no mercy for treason," Clara said evenly.

She raised the weapon and fired a single shot. Russo slumped in the chair, instantly dead.

Marco didn't flinch. He looked at Clara, a profound, chilling respect solidifying in his eyes. She wasn't just Silas's wife anymore. She was a true, ruthless Queen.

"Dispose of him," Clara ordered, handing the gun back to Marco. "And find me Alexander Thorne."
