Chapter 28

On a breathtaking private island hidden amidst the sun-drenched Caribbean sea, Kendra Mercer sat on a swing, smiling as she watched her young son play on the white limestone patio. For the first time in weeks of living in the terror of being hunted, she felt she could breathe the air of freedom and peace. But she didn't know that, for forces like the Black Lotus, the concept of a safe distance didn't exist.
Inside the villa's control station, Cole was constantly monitoring the multi-layered radar system. Everything seemed quiet until an anomalous acoustic signal flashed on the east side of the island, where the dense jungle bordered the steep cliffs. Even though it was just a tiny blip that appeared for a split second, the intuition of a veteran who had survived countless life-or-death situations told him death was knocking.
He sprinted out to the patio like a panther, grabbing Kendra's arm and scooping up the boy, dragging them forcefully into the house just as an ear-splitting "crack" tore through the air. A sniper bullet shattered the two-inch-thick tempered glass door, embedding itself deep into the granite wall—exactly where Kendra had been standing a second ago.

Black Lotus mercenaries had used an advanced submersible to bypass the surface naval radar and had landed on the island. Cole forced Kendra down onto the freezing stone floor, shoving a loaded Glock 19 into her hands. "Lock the bunker door! Shoot anyone who steps through that door without a Vance callsign!" he roared, his eyes flashing with the blood-red fire of a killer.
Cole hastily pulled an assault rifle from the secret weapons cache hidden under the floor. He rolled over the broken glass, blending into the darkness of the hallway. Outside, suppressed gunfire began raining down on the villa, shredding the expensive walls. The fight to the death on the isolated tropical island had officially begun, where there were no laws, only blood and bullets.
