Chapter 29

News of Garrett's bloody prison break reached the command center at the Vance estate before the city police even managed to issue a nationwide APB. Marcus Vance was like a ferocious lion, roaring over dozens of encrypted radio frequencies, mobilizing the entire private security force to lock down every street in the city.

But Brooke Vance refused to hide in a safe bunker. She had arranged to send the twins to a top-secret bunker guarded by their most loyal mercenaries, but she herself chose to remain in the glass executive office on the top floor of the Vance-Hale Tower. She knew Garrett's sick psychology perfectly well. He wouldn't be stupid enough to attack the Vance estate, which was an impenetrable military fortress. He would target the heart of her empire: the massive data server tower, where all the family's cash flow and power were stored.

Outside the window, the heavy night rain lashed against the glass. A black, unmarked transport helicopter flew dangerously close, weaving through the skyscrapers, and suddenly dropped dozens of heavily armed Black Lotus mercenaries onto the helipad atop the Vance tower.

A massive C4 explosion tore through the ceiling of the top floors, shaking the entire tower. Automatic gunfire echoed, shattering the expensive crystal glass, the shards raining down on the floor like a deadly diamond shower. Vance's elite security forces fought back fiercely, creating bloody battlegrounds in the narrow corridors.

But in his frenzy, Garrett, wearing a blood-soaked tactical suit, fired his weapon continuously, madly carving a bloody path straight toward Brooke's executive office. He shot out the biometric lock, kicked open the double oak doors, his assault rifle raised, gunsmoke billowing.

Brooke was still standing there, calm and authoritative behind the massive mahogany desk. With not a single weapon in her hand, she looked at him with eyes full of deep contempt. "Hello, Garrett," she said, her tone freezing cold, still as a frozen lake without a hint of fear. "You look terrible."
