Chapter 102 - The Maw of the Leviathan

The blinding beam of emerald light turned the churning, diesel-coated water into an eerie, glowing cauldron. Below us, the colossal black mass of the submarine parted the deep like a rising continent. Its hull was seamless, devoid of insignia or flag, coated in sound-dampening acoustic tiles that seemed to swallow the screaming metal groan of the collapsing rig above.

"Get back!" Ethan roared, grabbing the shoulder of my tactical vest and hauling me away from the edge of the moonpool.

Julian’s laughter didn't stop. It grew more frantic, vibrating through his bloody teeth as he slumped against the mangled hydraulic crane. "You spent six months hunting ghosts, Claire! You burned our family down to the marrow! But you never looked up at the leash. You never asked who held the chain!"

Before Ethan could silence him, the pressurized hatch on the dorsal deck of the massive submarine hissed open. Pressurized gas erupted in plumes of white steam against the cold sea spray. Out from the vessel’s gantry stepped figures clad not in maritime uniforms, but in pressurized, matte-black assault chassis, their helmets fitted with hexagonal vision arrays that glowed a faint, malevolent crimson.

They didn't hesitate. They fired magnetic grappling lines that anchored into the catwalks of our sinking platform with the force of artillery strikes. The entire deck groaned, buckling downward toward the rising titan.

"Julian is the asset!" one of the armored operators barked through an external speaker, their voice electronically distorted into a harsh mechanical drone. "Secure the biometric key. Terminate the anomalies."

"Anomalies," Ethan spat, raising his carbine and firing a rapid burst that sparked harmlessly off the point man’s composite chest plate. "Claire, to the secondary gantry! We can't fight heavy infantry on an unstable deck!"

I lunged forward, not toward safety, but toward Julian. The ledger drive—the hard drive containing the financial architecture that had funded my husband Mark's murder and the staged hit on my babies—hung on a lanyard around Julian's neck, half-soaked in his blood.

"You don't get to leave with their names," I snarled, dropping my weight onto his shattered ribs.

Julian gasped, the arrogance in his eyes flickering into primal terror as I snapped the cord from his throat. His hand shot out, his fingers digging into my wrist with dying strength. "She sold you, Claire... Mother sold you the day you were born... the birthday... the party was never for Evelyn... it was an exchange..."

A magnetic line struck the rail two feet from my head. An operative vaulted onto the platform, raising a pneumatic breach cannon. Ethan tackled me sideways just as the concussive slug tore through the deck plating where Julian lay, ending my brother's final breath in a cloud of crimson vapor and twisted rebar.

"We go now!" Ethan screamed, dragging me into the shadow of the auxiliary emergency capsule.

The moonpool collapsed entirely behind us. The sea roared inward to swallow the dead, while the leviathan below opened its secondary bay doors, preparing to harvest whatever remained of our shattered family empire.
